In the spirit of collaboration and learning ÎüʪÊÓƵ’s International department was well-represented at a recent conference examining global education issues. ÎüʪÊÓƵ team members spoke at the BC International Education Week 2024 Conference in Vancouver, a gathering of educators and administrators from various institutions.

The conference discussed insights on international education, and OC's delegation made a notable impact.

Three employees from OC led insightful sessions alongside their peers from other BC post-secondary institutions.

  • Sakura Hirata partnered with Vancouver Community College, North Island College, and University Mobility in Asia and the Pacific (UMAP) to explore how consortiums can support underrepresented Canadian students in studying abroad. The session highlighted the importance of providing opportunities for all students to gain international experience.
  • Antriksh (AR) Mistry, in collaboration with colleagues from the University of Victoria (UVic) and Thompson Rivers University (TRU), shared insights on enhancing international enrollment and support from an immigration perspective. This collaboration emphasized the need for comprehensive support systems to ensure international students feel welcomed and can succeed in their studies.
  • Jade Bethune collaborated with the University of British Columbia (UBC) and the Association of International Enrollment Management to discuss tools for assessing the quality of educational agencies that recruit international students. This session focused on ensuring that international recruitment processes are transparent and effective.

"These contributions underscore ÎüʪÊÓƵ's commitment to advancing global education and fostering meaningful dialogues in the education community, in alignment with OC's Inspire Plan," said Devin Rubadeau, Director of Student Enrollment Management at OC.

ÎüʪÊÓƵ's participation in the conference aligns with its strategy to equip learners with relevant education and skills that address both local and global needs. As social and economic realities continue to evolve, OC remains committed to fostering meaningful dialogues and advancing global education. The College's efforts at the BC International Education Week 2024 Conference demonstrate its dedication to preparing students for a dynamic and interconnected world.
