In July, the OC Indigenous Services team had the pleasure of hosting a two-week camp designed for Indigenous kids in grades 4-6, called Indigenous Innovators: Quest for Knowledge, Culture, and Creativity. The Indigenous Services team is grateful to the Camp OC team for helping make this camp a great success.

Campers had the opportunity to make Bannock with Salmon Arm Indigenous Services Coordinator, Diyame Derrick Caterer, which made an excellent morning snack. They were also taught the art of making medicine pouches by Lainie Greyeyes, a Knowledge Sharer from the Penticton Indian Band. Each pouch was assembled with a bundle of medicines, accompanied by Lainie's teachings on the significance of the four sacred medicines.

A highlight for the team was the songs campers wrote and produced with help from the talented Audio Engineering team. Andy Roberts, a Cree artist living in Penticton, assisted the kids in creating lyrics in the morning, and in the afternoon, everyone had the chance to record their song and take a copy of it home.

The OC Indigenous Services team had a great time with these incredible Indigenous youth and are excited to see where their creativity takes them next.
